Working
on plans for a cultural exchange program to celebrate 2010
as ‘Fleischmann-Year’: Mayor Peter Buergel,
Liz and Geoffrey Spratt from Cork, choir conductor Peter
Frank and Tobias Schneider and Andreas Pernpeinter, responsible
for cultural affairs in Dachau
Dachau
– The Irish city of Cork (former European capital
of culture) will celebrate Aloys Fleischmann’s 100th
birthday anniversary in 2010 and has invited “Liedertafel
Dachau” to join in the festivities.
Aloys
Fleischmann Jnr. held a chair at the college for music in
Cork from 1934 to 1980. Not only has he made a lasting impression
on Cork’s musical scene, he is also still considered
one of the leaders in Irish musical research. His father
Aloys Fleischmann Snr., composer and church musician was
born in Dachau and son of a founding member of Liedertafel
Dachau. He had been living and working in Cork since 1906.
As 2010
is going to be celebrated as a ‘Fleischmann Year’
representatives of Cork and Dachau have worked on a cultural
exchange program with mutual involvement in Cork and Dachau.
In order to work on detailed plans mayor Peter Buergel and
Tobias Schneider, responsible for cultural affairs, had
the pleasure of welcoming a group from Cork, headed up by
the director of Cork’s School of Music Geoffrey Spratt
and his wife Liz. The program will kick off with Liedertafel
Dachau traveling to Ireland in April 2010, where they will
be involved in various activities, e.g. the Choral Festival
in Cork – founded by Fleischmann – and a mass
in Cork’s cathedral.
In October
2010 the Fleischmann Choir will come to Dachau to sing a
mass in St. Jakob’s Church and to give a concert of
Aloys Fleischmann Snr.’s work in Dachau’s castle
joint by Liedertafel Dachau. Fleischmann Snr. is highly
respected in Ireland while nearly forgotten about in Dachau.
Other
elements of the mutual cultural program are an arts exhibition
featuring Irish landscapes from 1880 to 1920 in Dachau’s
gallery and an exhibition on the life of Aloys Fleischmann
Snr. in the regional museum, both to take place between
April and October.
